Capricorns are known for being the lighthouse of the star sign, they have strong boundaries, are disciplined, have self-control, and operate on the highest level of ethical and moral integrity. Nobody can ever accuse a Capricorn of being a fence sitter 😛 They may seem a tad on the serious/boring side but are extremely dependable both to themselves and others. This earth sign is a solid, grounded individual unafraid of long-term goals, commitments, or working hard to gain success. Unfortunately, since their bar is raised so high they can sometimes judge others for not meeting their own high expectations. Like a wise elder looking over the lands, a Capricorn knows everything has its place, holding a realistic and traditional view of the world with a down to earth perspective.

Capricornus is the name of Capricorn’s constellation and in Latin refers to “horned goat” or “goat horn”. It is located in an area of sky called the Sea or the Water, consisting of many water-related constellations such as Aquarius, Pisces, and Eridanus. Capricornus is usually drawn as a goat with the tail of a fish. It is the smallest constellation in the zodiac.

Despite its faintness, the constellation Capricornus has one of the oldest mythological associations, having been consistently represented as a hybrid of a goat and a fish since the Middle Bronze Age, when the Babylonians used SUḪUR.MAŠ “The Goat-Fish” as a symbol of their god Ea.

In Greek mythology, the constellation is sometimes identified as Amalthea, the goat that suckled the infant Zeus after his mother, Rhea, saved him from being devoured by his father, Cronos. Amalthea’s broken horn was transformed into the cornucopia or “horn of plenty”.

Capricornus is also sometimes identified as Pan, the god with a goat’s horns and legs, who saved himself from the monster Typhon by giving himself a fish’s tail and diving into a river. (Source)
